BTS AT BRISBANE FASHION FESTIVAL
WORDS BY NFC STUDENT ANGEL-MAE HAYES
Growing up I always knew I wanted to work in fashion but was unsure which pathway in the industry to take.
At a time in my life where I felt lost, I found NFC and began studying online from the Gold Coast in Queensland.
I have experienced so many amazing opportunities through NFC, most recently attending Brisbane Fashion Festival. BFF is Queensland’s biggest fashion event showcasing upcoming Spring/Summer collections from designers ranging from well-known, to local artists and the next generation of the fashion industry.
Having previously assisted at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (thanks to NFC), I had prior knowledge of the requirements I was expected to fulfil.
For the duration of my volunteer work, I assisted with all Front-Of-House duties. Within this role, I worked with the team on activities such as event preparation and bump in, ticketing, ushering guests to their seats and most excitingly, being able to watch the show!
It was such a pleasure watching shows and seeing so many incredible garments, by personal favourites was the Next-Gen and Designer Fashion Shows!
A key highlight of my week was getting the opportunity to walk the runway. At the finale show, all Front-Of-House volunteers were fortunate enough to close the show. It was such a nerve-wracking moment, but nevertheless a once in a lifetime experience.
I will always recommend and encourage participating in volunteer work as it is a fantastic way to meet and connect with like-minded people, as well as experience first-hand all that the fashion industry has to offer.
