NFC IN STYLE

WORDS BY NFC GRADUATE NAKEISHA COSTA

As a graduate from NFC’S first intake, I truly love the connection I have with the college. As such, I was recently lucky enough to attend NFC’s very first Styling Workshop hosted by Emma Read, National Stylist for Tiffany & Co.

It was inspiring hearing Emma speak about her experience in the industry, and how she worked her way around to finding a job that she loved and had such a passion for.

Emma did an incredible job of supporting the class to participate in multiple ways throughout the day, and again being a graduate it was lovely to see a variety of young individuals invested in listening and learning from her too.

Personally, what I took away the most was the introduction to Emma’s Styling Kit. We learnt tips and tricks into how to be most prepared when working across shoots, as well as what elements/items we need to ensure we can conquer anything that might be thrown to us whilst on-set!

The day consisted of introductions, style kits, mood boards, and photoshoots. All in all, an incredible experience for both NFC students and those who want a first peak into the industry.

Mood boarding allowed us to work collaboratively with others who may have different individual styles and create a cohesive style & buying board.

Further into the day, Emma let us do our own styling, where she brought up two examples where we had to find outfits that would suit our celebrity clients. Using clothes around the college alongside accessories from home, we all put together outfits to fit the brief. This provided us with an insightful look into the different elements of taking a style brief from start to end.

Following this, we switched into our stylised outfits ready to do a studio & outdoor photoshoot. Many of us bought our own outfits, yet we also had the choice from all of the college wardrobe. This created a great bonding experience for everyone, as we encouraged each other to feel our best when we looked our best.

I would highly recommend anyone who wants to explore Styling, fashion, or have a snippet of the experience you can have at National Fashion College to attend future Workshops. It is an incredible day where you get to meet others in similar positions to you and share the experience of learning from an industry professional.

National Fashion College continues to impress me with the experiences they offer, and going to the Styling Workshop was just one of the many that I am thankful to have been a part of!
