STEPPING INTO MY CREATIVITY

WORDS BY NFC STUDENT Madison Milford

My name is Madi, my background is Samoan, and I am 22 years old, living in Sydney.

Currently, I am studying Criminology at University as well as attending one of Australia’s leading Fashion Colleges, National Fashion College. I guess you could say my interests are very diversified.

I am very drawn to creative and innovative spaces and thrive off working to overcome challenges. Throughout the entirety of my life, I have been searching for a pathway that I feel serves my creative needs as well as provides tasks to constantly keep me on my toes, 22 years in and I can safely say that I am only just starting to feel a sense of contentment regarding the route in which I am currently travelling in.

Authenticity. A word that sums up my personal brand to a T...well, at least I hope it does. I love sharing my life on social media and I am a huge believer in transparent content, and unedited images that show a true depiction of what is happening in my life.

I hope to build a personal brand that inspires and assists people my age to take risks and in the plainest terms "just live their lives".

For example, I have documented my journey of attending Fashion School. This was a huge deal for me and a risk that I am extremely proud of myself for taking, in doing so I hope it ignites a sense of drive in others to do the same, take risks and try new things no matter how insignificant or scary it seems because. In the end, it could lead you to some of your best experiences.

Professionally, I hope to be someone in the industry that is not only known for being creative and innovative but someone that is known for being very personable and gracious. The countless experiences I’ve had with Styling, Content Creation, Creative Direction and Buying have taught me so many lessons, one of the biggest is to go with my gut.

I’ve been someone that struggles with believing in my ideas, and my experiences thus far have made clear to me that having a little faith in my capabilities and creative visions is key.

Another huge passion for me professionally is to bring diversity to the industry, making way for all individuals to feel a sense of belonging. It is a huge goal of mine to create a brand that is inclusive and does a great job of celebrating all individuals.

From here who knows what’s next but I’m sure the lessons learned, and true friendships gained will be a driving force in the achievements and milestones I am yet to meet.
