Behind the scenes at nyfw
Starting NFC in July, I was so excited to see where the year would take me and to dive into all the opportunities that came my way.
Getting to go on the New York trip in February, was such an incredible opportunity and experience, it still doesn’t even feel real two months later.
We got to work on such incredible shows such as Alexander Wang, Heron Preston, Patbo, Puppets & Puppets, Kim Shui, Brandon Maxwell, Markarian, Mens Fashion Day and Foo & Foo, it was a dream come true. Also being able to work on them in various ways and gaining experience in areas I didn’t expect, was an awesome learning opportunity.
We worked PR on several; doing BOH - working with photographers, and FOH- checking in and seating guests and VIP’s. We were also working production on quite a few, which was amazing and they definitely ended up being some of my favourites because we saw the show from start to finish having helped set it up and pack it up! Also getting to dress models backstage on a couple is always a great experience being in the thick of it at a crucial time. Every show taught us something new and I think that’s what’s so great about it, every show is a different experience.
The people you meet and get to work alongside too, are some of the best in the industry which is so exciting and being able to have the opportunity to learn from them in New York at New York fashion week is unreal. Also, just meeting different kinds of people in such fun and inspiring situations, is always entertaining and exciting.
I of course have a few favourite memories from the trip. The Heron Preston show working with my friend Lily, helping the PR team with seating charts and then actually being able to be there FOH seating guests and VIPs was so much fun and awesome to just be amongst it, and then getting to watch the show - which was incredible!
Another favourite memory of mine was on our first night at the Alexander Wang rehearsal. When we arrived we were lined up behind big pink curtains, given numbers to order us and then told we were being pace models. We ended up walking the Wang runway amongst some gorgeous models, helping to pace out the audio for the show. The best part being Alexander Wang was sitting front and centre. So, we can now claim we’ve walked for Alexander Wang, which we all thought was hilarious and so crazy!
Working the Patbo show with the production team was another highlight for me personally, we got to feel so professional wearing headsets and radios. I was put in charge of being with the models and hair & makeup teams making sure everyone was running on time and getting the models to dress on schedule and be in the line-up for the show. Then the running of the backstage line-up, making sure they were all in their correct spots to walk the show and the finale, making sure they were paying attention to timing and speed. It was awesome and working with the producers was so much fun and it was nice to feel so trusted to do real work alongside them.
I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Bryce has honestly changed my life not only with the course and internships in general but having trusted me and taken me on this trip. I used to live in New Jersey and was in New York all the time, however, this trip to New York was the best I’ve ever had, hands down. This trip is 100% a dream come true and one of the best experiences of my life, absolutely worth it, and I wish I could go and do it all again.
