FASHION & TECH: MY VOGUE CODES EXPERIENCE
WORDS BY NFC STUDENT, KELLY ZHONG
I am nearing the end of my time here at NFC, I had the pleasure of attending a series of incredible events in the fashion industry filled with some truly unforgettable moments. One of the highlights was attending Vogue Codes 2024 with my classmates—an event I won't soon forget.
The event was all about exploring the intersection of technology, fashion, and the future of AI. We arrived to a selection of refreshments, and I have to say, the fresh prawns were a personal favourite—they were just what we needed before the panels kicked off.
The focus of Vogue Codes 2024 was particularly intriguing, diving deep into how AI is shaping the future of the fashion industry and beyond. From how it's transforming everything from design to consumer experiences, to the ethical and social responsibilities that come with it. After enjoying the pre-panel delights, we were guided into the main hall and found our seats, each complete with a well-curated goodie bag (another little highlight!).
The panels were nothing short of inspiring. We had an impressive lineup of speakers, including Dr Sarah McKay, a neuroscientist who broke down the brain's interaction with tech in ways I never thought possible, and Kath Albury from Swinburne, who spoke on the evolving relationship between media and technology. FlexMami was, of course, a standout—media icon, multi-hyphenate, and Renaissance woman, bringing her unique perspective on culture and innovation.
Other notable speakers included Alana Kennedy, the brains behind Ochre Sun, and Dr. Michele Squire, whose work with QR8 Network offered insights into the ever-growing intersection of science and beauty. Dr Joanna Batstone from Monash Data Futures Institute and Aruna Pattam, the head of Generative AI at Capgemini, delved into the nuances of AI’s role in policy and its future impact, while Zoe Hawkins from the Tech Policy Design Centre offered a fascinating look at tech policy design. Rounding off the day, Melanie Tran from Nous Group and Natalie Lee from YOOX NET-A-PORTER shared their expertise on digital transformation in the fashion and e-commerce space.
By the end of the day, I was absolutely exhausted—mentally and physically—but it was the good kind of tired, the kind that comes after being both challenged and inspired. The event was not only informative but also deeply rewarding, leaving me with plenty to reflect on as I move forward.
