NYFW WITH PROENZA SCHOULER
WORDS BY NFC STUDENT ELSIE CANNON
My journey to New York City with NFC’s Fashion Week Program was an unforgettable adventure.
Under Bryce’s incredible guidance, I was able to secure an internship at Proenza Schouler, a renowned fashion brand founded in 2002 by designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. This experience was definitely the highlight of my trip. It served as the perfect platform for me to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic field of Public Relations.
One of the most unforgettable moments of my internship was attending and working at the Proenza Schouler Fashion Show. Our team had the crucial responsibility of ensuring that VIP clients, such as Sofia Richie, were welcomed and escorted to their seats seamlessly.
In addition to my work at Proenza Schouler, I had the opportunity to work at multiple other fashion shows during Fashion Week, some including:
Naomi Campbell x Pretty Little Thing,
Tiffany Brown Designs,
Puppets & Puppets,
and Brandon Maxwell.
Each show provided unique insights into the industry’s inner workings.
Furthermore, I had the opportunity to assist with a photo shoot for Moss Magazine, an experience that allowed me to witness the entire creative process from making styling decisions to selecting locations for the shoot. It was not only a valuable learning experience but also a lot of fun, especially working alongside a graduated NFC student.
Throughout my time in NYC, NFC also provided access to speaking events featuring prominent individuals in the fashion industry. These events included engaging conversations with icons like:
Fern Mallis - Creator of New York Fashion Week,
Gabriela Hurst - Creative Director at Gabriela Hurst & Chloe
and discussions on Black Excellence in Fashion.
These interactions provided me with valuable insights into the fashion business world.
What made this trip truly special was the amazing group of people I had the privilege of sharing it with. The trip was an enriching adventure that allowed all of us to explore NYC and immerse ourselves in its fashion culture. We all had so much fun!
